The epiphany
I recently had an epiphany. This internal battle I have each and every day whether i’m too much on social media or not. Whether I’m not enough on social media or not. IT’S NOT WORTH IT.
I had just started a solid job of trying to shovel all the spring-mud from our drive way and my wife came out to say she had made a pasta. I slowed down the shoveling and let her walk inside. I looked down and saw my hands, they were covered in dirt and I could feel the tingling in them after all the movement. I sat down on our home made bench and took a breath. THIS is real. THIS is how I want to feel after a task, blood flowing, fresh air, and mud. Well, maybe not always with the mud but it gave me such a distinct feeling of realness and genuity.
I picked up my phone and I Googled ”Can I succeed without social media”. I thought to myself as I tapped my thumbs on the screen, just how dependent on our phones we all have learned to be.
In the list of articles that came up I found one written by Jodie Cook, Forbes magazine. ”21 ways to grow your business without social media”.
As I read through the list I felt reassured that there are so many people out there who are doing it, the real deal!
That’s it. I’m doing that. Here, you have all my attention, LETS DO THIS.
”21 ways to grow your business without social media” – Forbes
People that are living life without social media are not on social media. Obviously! But, that’s where we have been programmed to look for inspiration and people.
So, naturally we have a hard time being inspired by these people when we look for them on these platforms. Do they even exist? Can I do what someone somewhere is supposedly doing? Where do we find them? Can I just go to the café and find one?
I will find out! In this next chapter of my career I will look for answers. I will let myself be as curious as 7 year old me and I will venture into the real world. Away from toxic comparison and algorithms.
This blog post will become a series of posts where I take inspiration from this Forbes article I found. Topic by topic I will discover and reflect. And at the end I will write a summary where I hopefully have tied new connections, found a more balanced way to run my business and have more confident way to approach new opportunities!
The first stop on the journey is:
1. Go networking
OK LETS GO!
